I had a 1969 or 1970 Z50 K1 that I bought
from Fred’s Honda in Okmulgee Oklahoma and rode the tires
off of it until my cousin Johnny wrecked it one weekend. It
pretty well mangled it up and I was really upset. But, it
eventually turned out great for me because I managed to get
a brand new 1971 Red SL70 in its’ place.
The Z50 was the second bike that I owned and
the affliction of taking something perfectly good apart and
trying to make it better continued. I adapted a rear foot
brake to the bike and also changed out the triple clamp and
put high-rise handlebars on it. From the best recollection
that I have, I don’t think I any longer had a rear hand
brake, only the front one. I know that I also continued the
tradition of taking the exhaust apart to make it louder, but
I think I only took the stinger out of the muffler.
I bought this bike in memory of the little
Z50 that I had when I was 13 years old. You can see
pictures of the originals under the “Old Bike Pictures”
section.
I kept this little bike until the
Yellow/Silver one took its’ place in the living room
showroom.
